Sri Lankan PM visits Delhi government school, explores education collaboration

new delhi: sri lankan prime minister harini amarasuriya on friday visited sarvodaya co-ed vidyalaya in rohini, accompanied by delhi education minister ashish sood, to explore possible collaboration in education and witness the capital's modern school infrastructure.during the visit, both sides discussed initiatives such as teacher training, vocational education, and sustainability in schools. a proposed “delhi-colombo education bridge” aims to promote student and teacher exchange programmes and foster partnerships in sustainable school design, innovation, and youth leadership.sood briefed the prime minister on the transformation of delhi's public education system, highlighting state-of-the-art infrastructure, smart classrooms, modern teaching techniques, and advanced digital learning environments. in a post on x, he said the visit “showcased modern infrastructure, innovative teaching practices and a digital learning environment,” providing a meaningful interaction with students and teachers.under the leadership of prime minister narendra modi and chief minister rekha gupta, the delhi government has strengthened public education through the “schools of the 21st century” initiative, focusing on sustainability, happiness, research, and innovation, an official statement noted.during her visit, amarasuriya observed classroom activities and interacted with students and teachers. she commended the delhi government's education policy, saying the model could inspire other developing nations.the visit is expected to enhance educational cooperation and dialogue between india and sri lanka. symbolically, both amarasuriya and sood, along with chief minister gupta, are alumni of delhi university.
