coimbatore (tamil nadu): a college student was allegedly sexually assaulted by three men near the coimbatore international airport, triggering outrage across tamil nadu with political leaders demanding swift action against the culprits.police said the 19-year-old student and her male friend were attacked by unidentified assailants on november 2 night at a secluded spot. the men chased away her friend and assaulted her. both have been admitted to a hospital. seven special police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused.aiadmk general secretary edappadi k palaniswami urged chief minister m k stalin, who holds the home portfolio, to ensure the immediate arrest of the culprits. condemning the dmk government for “failing to protect women,” he said women's safety was fully ensured under the late j jayalalithaa's leadership.union minister l murugan described the incident as “horrific” and said it reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in tamil nadu. he urged the state to provide medical aid and compensation to the victim and ensure harsh punishment for the offenders.bjp state president nainar nagendran announced a statewide protest, while coimbatore south mla vanathi srinivasan said the incident was “another black mark” on the ruling dmk.bjp leader k annamalai alleged that anti-social elements “no longer fear the law” under the current government and accused it of shielding sexual offenders.leaders of pmk, tvk and the left parties also condemned the assault and demanded immediate action to bring the culprits to justice.
