TN Govt Increases Intake by 20% in Arts and Science Colleges
chennai: the tamil nadu government has increased the student intake in government arts and science colleges by 20 per cent to accommodate the growing demand for higher education, higher education minister dr. govi chezhian, said. in an official statement, the minister said the move was aimed at ensuring greater access to higher education, particularly for students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds."the state government is implementing initiatives such as the 'pudhumai penn' and 'tamil pudhalvan' schemes to promote higher education among all sections of society. under the 'naan mudhalvan' scheme, skill development training is also being offered to students," he said.he said the number of students seeking admission in higher education institutions has seen a significant rise over the last four years.“to meet the increased demand, 15 new government arts and science colleges have been started this academic year. additionally, existing government colleges have been permitted to increase admissions by 20 per cent. government-aided colleges can increase intake by 15 per cent and self-financing colleges by 10 per cent,” he said.the minister urged students from underprivileged backgrounds to make use of the expanded opportunities and welfare schemes to pursue higher education and improve their lives.
