Chennai: "If any newspaper is truly dedicated to organizing programs for the betterment of students, especially to help them achieve remarkable feats, it is Dinamalar," said P. Sriram, President of Chennai Institute of Technology.
Pattam, the student edition of Dinamalar, aims to promote subjects like mathematics, science, history, language skills, and general knowledge among school students. Every year, a quiz competition is organized to encourage students who read the magazine to expand their learning horizons.
The fifth annual quiz competition was held across 200 schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur districts. Over 50,000 students participated in the first phase, with 200 teams—two from each school—advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-finals took place at the Kalaivanar Arena in Chennai, where participants faced a 20-question written test, with a 20-minute time limit. The top eight teams advanced to the finals.
At the final event, Dinamalar Associate Editor R. Krishnamurthy presented trophies and medals to the finalists. Quizmaster Aravind conducted the four-round competition.
Sri Vatsakumar and Ananya from Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, East Tambaram, clinched the first prize. They were awarded Apple MacBooks worth Rs. 1 lakh each, along with a school trophy. The second-place winners, Sanvi and Rishitapriya from Satthana Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tiruttani, received HP laptops valued at Rs. 50,000 each. The third-place winners, Lokeshwari and Sanjana from Kavarappettai RMK Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tiruvallur, were given Samsung tablets worth Rs. 20,000 each.
Additional prizes included bicycles worth Rs. 10,000 for the seventh-place winners, Swethika and Srishakti from Sri Sankara Vidyalaya 12th Higher Secondary School, Oorappakkam, and Vishnu and Janapriya from Springfield 12th Higher Secondary School, K.K. Nagar.
Sriram emphasized the importance of the event, saying, “It is a privilege for us to be a part of this initiative with Dinamalar. The enthusiasm shown by students is encouraging, especially in an era where everything can be found on mobile phones. However, 'Pattam' continues to inspire students to study general knowledge, and we are grateful for that."
He also highlighted Chennai Institute of Technology's commitment to nurturing student talent through programs like Girl Talk, which encourages communication, and Innovest, which promotes creative thinking. Innovest challenges students to address societal issues with innovative solutions, and winning ideas are developed into products and even patented.
Moin S.P.M., Co-Founder of Agnikul, expressed gratitude to Dinamalar for hosting the event, sharing how his company developed rockets in 2017 as part of India's private space sector.
This collaboration between Dinamalar and Chennai Institute of Technology continues to support and inspire students in their educational journeys.
