Enormous social media pressure on students: Dr. Palanivelu at book launch

chennai: the increasing use of social media is exerting pressure on school students, said dr. c. palanivelu, chairman of gem hospital, at a book launch event in guindy, chennai.dr. palanivelu's autobiography, guts in english and 'ethuvum indri' in tamil, was first released in coimbatore in july last year. speaking at the chennai launch, he shared insights into his motivation for writing the book.he highlighted that many patients from rural areas seek treatment at major hospitals only when their diseases have progressed significantly. due to a lack of awareness and concerns about work disruption, they delay medical consultation. his autobiography aims to bridge this knowledge gap and inform people that advanced treatments now allow for quicker recovery times.discussing student education, he emphasized that success is not just about studying extensively but about learning with confidence. he expressed concern over the negative impact of social media on school students, stating that it influences their perception of themselves and others.reflecting on his own journey, he credited his teachers for shaping his education and stressed that students who earn their teachers' trust receive significant support in return.dr. palanivelu also recounted how former president dr. a.p.j. abdul kalam encouraged him to write his autobiography to inspire school students. in response, 6,000 copies of his book will be distributed free of cost to government school students.the event was attended by madras ent foundation executive director dr. mohan kameswaran, laparoscopic specialist dr. laxmikant, advocate stalin bhaskar, bar council speaker bharathi bhaskar, and gem hospital directors dr. asokan and dr. senthilnathan.
