57 candidates from TN clear UPSC Civil Services Exam, highest in five years
chennai: as many as 57 candidates from tamil nadu have cleared the union public service commission (upsc) civil services examination 2024, marking the highest success rate from the state in the past five years.according to data released following the declaration of final results, six candidates from the state have secured ranks within the top 100, with sivasandran from dharmapuri securing all india rank (air) 23, the highest from tamil nadu. chennai-based a.s. jee jee bagged air 25 and has expressed interest in joining the indian foreign service (ifs), having opted for tamil literature as his optional subject.pavithra, a btech student from guindy engineering college, secured air 42 in her third attempt. arvind, son of senior ias officer and tneb chairman radhakrishnan, secured air 80.out of the 9.92 lakh applicants for the preliminary examination held on june 16, 2024, around 5.83 lakh appeared. of these, 14,627 qualified for the mains held in september. interviews were conducted between january 7 and april 17 for 2,845 candidates.coaching institutes said that 140 candidates from tamil nadu had qualified for the interview, of whom 57 were finally selected. improved communication skills, access to training resources, and post-covid motivation were cited as key factors.under the state-run 'naan mudhalvan' scheme, 559 aspirants received monthly financial assistance of rs 25,000. of them, 134 qualified for the interview stage. the tamil nadu government has also proposed rs 50,000 assistance for interview preparation in the state budget.
