BIS conducts two-day mentors training programme for Standards Clubs in Chennai

chennai: the bureau of indian standards (bis), chennai branch office, conducted a two-day mentors training programme (mtp) for standards clubs on july 28 and 29 at four points by sheraton, velachery, to strengthen quality consciousness among students through trained mentors.organised under the southern regional office, the programme saw participation from over 25 mentors representing newly established bis standards clubs in schools and colleges. it aimed to equip mentors with a foundational understanding of bis operations, quality principles, and standardization processes, enabling them to guide students in integrating scientific knowledge with real-world standards.shri s. d. dayanand, scientist-f & head, bis chennai, inaugurated the event, highlighting the mentors' crucial role in nurturing scientific curiosity and instilling quality values among students. smt. k. sasikala, joint director (nss), directorate of school education, delivered the keynote address, applauding bis's initiative in linking education with industry needs and urging mentors to foster innovation and responsibility in students.technical sessions were led by senior bis officials. shri muninarayana r. introduced bis's quality infrastructure and its school-level engagement initiatives. shri sreejith mohan j. discussed the relevance of standards and demonstrated bis digital tools. shri gowththam b. j. conducted a hands-on workshop on drafting standards aligned with academic subjects.the programme concluded with group presentations and certificate distribution. bis reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a culture of quality and standardization among youth, viewing mentors as key drivers in this national effort.
