ebm-papst to Set Up Third Manufacturing Unit in India with ₹340 Cr Investment
chennai: german fan and motor manufacturer ebm-papst will set up its third manufacturing unit in india with an investment of ₹340 crore in chennai. the facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2026 and will employ around 700 people.the groundbreaking ceremony for the plant is scheduled for april 4. the company has acquired a 57,600 sq. m (14.2-acre) land parcel in chennai, with the first phase covering 23,000 sq. m. the expansion is part of ebm-papst's strategy to strengthen its presence in the asia-pacific, middle east, and africa (apac & mea) region.“this investment reflects our long-term vision for india,” said atul tripathi, managing director, ebm-papst india. “by boosting local production, we aim to meet rising domestic demand while creating sustainable employment opportunities.”ceo dr. klaus geissdoerfer said the initiative aligns with the company's "local for local" strategy to enhance supply chain resilience. cso thomas nuernberger added that localization would ensure quicker responses to customer needs.inaddition to expanding production, ebm-papst set up a global capability centre (gcc) in chennai in 2023, spanning 2,800 sq. m and housing 300 specialists working on digital solutions.ebm-papst has been present in india since 1996 and operates four sales offices, two manufacturing units, and multiple warehouses, employing about 375 people. globally, the company reported a turnover of €2.4 billion in fy 2023-24, with nearly 14,000 employees across 27 production sites.
