Hospital visits mandatory as field trips for students, reiterates Doctor

coimbatore: with rising drug addiction among students, hospital visits should be made mandatory alongside educational tours and industrial visits, said dr. saranya, deputy director of the district tobacco control center.the district tobacco control center has been conducting regular awareness programs among school and college students while providing specialized counseling to students and public affected by smoking, alcoholism and drug addiction."research indicates that tobacco and drug addiction can genetically impact users' descendants for two to three generations," dr. saranya told reporters here. she warned that diseases affecting smokers can also impact passive smokers in the vicinity.dr. saranya noted a disturbing trend where tobacco addiction, previously seen among higher secondary students, now affects children as young as grade 6. "despite government-sponsored awareness programs and counseling training for teachers, teenagers find it difficult to break these habits, resulting in school dropouts," she said.the government is planning new initiatives for the upcoming academic year, including mandatory hospital visits for students.
