SRRI to lead International Day of Yoga celebrations in Puducherry

puducherry: the siddha regional research institute (srri), puducherry, has been designated as the state nodal unit to coordinate the 11th international day of yoga (idy) in the union territory. the ministry of ayush has set up state nodal units nationwide to ensure smooth conduct of idy-2025, which will be observed on june 21 under the theme “yoga for one earth, one health”.dr. s. shunmugaram, research officer (s) s-ii, will serve as the state nodal officer for puducherry. the srri will collaborate with central and state agencies, local administrations, educational institutions, and private organisations to promote widespread participation and meaningful celebrations.as part of the nationwide festivities, the government of india has planned 10 signature events, including yoga sangam, yoga bandhan, yoga parks, yoga samavesh, yoga prabhava, yoga connect, harit yoga, yoga unplugged, yoga maha kumbh and samyogam. these events aim to foster wellness, sustainability, and global harmony.under the yoga sangam initiative, over one lakh locations across india will host synchronised yoga demonstrations, promoting universal accessibility, youth engagement, and global outreach.inpuducherry, srri will organise four key satellite events on june 21 at pondicherry university; multipurpose hall cum indoor stadium, lawspet (in collaboration with local institutions); aditya vidyashram residential school, poraiyur; and acharya sri sampurna vidyalayam, villianur.additionally, about 500 community-level events under the yoga sangam banner will align with the broader national observance, reinforcing the message of holistic health and sustainable living.
