Maha Kumbhabhishekam at Sri Meenakshi Temple, Pearland, Texas

A momentous Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony was performed for the Ganesh Temple at Sri Meenakshi Temple in Pearland, Texas, on November 9, 2025, marking a sacred milestone after 12 years. The auspicious event was conducted with great devotion and traditional grandeur, drawing hundreds of devotees from across the United States. The temple's Honorary President and Founder, Mr. Sockalingam (Sam) Kannappan, and his wife Mrs. Meenakshi Kannappan were honored during the ceremony for their vision and lifelong dedication to the temple's growth and service to the community. In his brief but heartfelt remarks, Mr. Kannappan emphasized the importance of involving the next generation of youth in temple activities to ensure the temple continues to flourish for the next thousand years. His words deeply resonated with the devotees, reminding them that the temple is not just a place of worship but a cultural and spiritual anchor for future generations. Temple Chairman Mr. Arun Sundar and his wife, Mrs. Malathi Sundar, honored Mr. and Mrs. Kannappan with a traditional salvai, expressing the temple's gratitude for their invaluable contributions. Reflecting on the temple's historic journey, Mr. Kannappan recalled that the Ganesh sanctum was inaugurated on August 26, 1979, followed by the Meenakshi sanctum on June 26, 1982 — milestones that marked the humble beginnings of what has now become one of North America's most revered Hindu temples. The Maha Kumbhabhishekam served as both a spiritual rejuvenation and a renewal of commitment to preserving the temple's legacy for generations to come. -- Our Overseas Correspondent Sheela Ramanan from San Antonio
