chennai: in a recent syndicate meeting, anna university made significant decisions concerning the academic standards of its autonomous engineering colleges. the meeting approved several recommendations aimed at enhancing the quality of technical education.key among these decisions is the approval for autonomous educational institutions to independently frame questions and revise answer papers for one non-core theory course each semester. additionally, autonomous institutes ranked within the top 20 at the national level are now exempt from conducting university examinations. conversely, the syndicate has decided to report substandard institutions to the university grants commission (ugc) and take measures to elevate the standards of autonomous colleges.the meeting also approved the introduction of amendments to ensure that only high-quality autonomous institutions remain affiliated with the university. furthermore, a proposal to charge an educational administration fee of rs. 2000 per student per academic year will be presented in the next syndicate meeting.finally, the syndicate has decided to seek ugc approval before extending the autonomy of rajalakshmi engineering college, chennai.
