IIT Madras felicitates NPTEL Stars for outstanding online learning achievements
chennai: iit madras hosted the 'nptel stars event' to honor over 800 learners who excelled in the national programme on technology enhanced learning (nptel). these learners, recognized as 'nptel stars,' successfully completed and earned certifications in more than three courses in previous semesters.held on 9th february at the iit madras campus, the event celebrated students' dedication to upskilling through nptel, a joint initiative of iits and iisc offering online courses across technical, non-technical, and interdisciplinary domains. in the july-december 2024 semester, 733 courses were offered, with over 29 lakh enrollments and 9.2 lakh students taking exams, making nptel one of the largest mooc platforms globally.iit madras director, prof. v. kamakoti, lauded the learners, emphasizing nptel's role in democratizing quality education. prof. andrew thangaraj, chair of code, highlighted digital education's impact on accessibility. the event featured inspiring speeches, faculty interactions, and a workshop.learners shared success stories, including prof. ashok kumar (64), who completed multiple courses to stay updated with industry trends. sadiya mahee, a student from osmania university, praised the platform for blending theory and practice effectively.nptel continues to empower students and educators nationwide.
