JIPMER holds outreach programme on voluntary body donation to mark World Anatomy Day
puducherry: the department of anatomy at the jawaharlal institute of postgraduate medical education and research (jipmer) launched a four-day outreach programme on voluntary body donation from october 12 to 15 to mark world anatomy day 2025.organised in collaboration with the institute's community outreach committee, the initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of body donation in advancing medical education and research. the event is being held under the guidance of jipmer director dr. vir singh negi and senior administrators, including dean (academic) dr. vikram kate and medical superintendent dr. saka vinod kumar.an awareness rally held on sunday was flagged off by dr. vinod kumar and saw participation from over 150 mbbs students, faculty, staff, ngos, and members of the public. speaking at the event, dr. vinod kumar described voluntary body donation as a noble and irreplaceable contribution to medical learning.dr. sarasu j., head of the department of anatomy, said that donated bodies, after preservation and de-identification, serve as the “first teachers” for medical students, helping them gain hands-on understanding of human anatomy.the programme includes media sessions, creative competitions, role plays, and awareness activities, and will conclude on october 15 with a cme session, the honouring of donor families, and the launch of jipmer's online portal for voluntary body donation pledging.
