new delhi: the ministry of education has urged states, union territories (uts), and autonomous educational bodies to adopt unified payments interface (upi) and other digital payment platforms in schools to simplify fee collection and promote ease of schooling.ina letter to stakeholders, the department of school education and literacy highlighted that transitioning from cash-based to digital payments can modernize administrative processes, ensure transparency, and allow parents and students to pay admission and examination fees conveniently from home.the department recommended that schools under ncert, cbse, kendriya vidyalaya sangathan (kvs), navodaya vidyalaya samiti (nvs), and other educational institutions explore mechanisms for secure, traceable digital transactions. the initiative aligns with the government's broader digital transformation reforms aimed at creating a citizen-centric and technologically empowered education system.officials noted that such a move would also enhance financial literacy among students and parents, making digital payments a routine part of everyday life. encouraging widespread adoption of upi in schools is seen as a step toward achieving a digitally inclusive education ecosystem, supporting the vision of a viksit bharat by 2047.
