University of East London signs landmark pact for Indian student welfare

london: the university of east london (uel) and national indian students and alumni union (nisau) uk have signed a sector-first agreement to enhance welfare, employability and overall success of indian students in britain.the memorandum of understanding (mou), inked at uel's stratford campus last week, establishes a strategic framework to provide support to students from pre-arrival in india through post-graduation.data shows one in every 20 indians choosing the uk for higher education selects uel. the pact is designed as a model for best practice in international student engagement.“internationally mobile indian students make a hugely positive contribution to uel and the wider uk community," said professor amanda broderick, uel vice-chancellor. “our collaboration with nisau builds on uel's long-standing partnerships across india, preparing students for global success,” she added.the partnership will work with leading recruiters of uel graduates, including tata consultancy services, cognizant, hsbc, tech mahindra, and infosys, to co-design skills pathways and support employability.sanam arora, nisau uk chair, said the collaboration aims to ensure indian students excel academically and feel a sense of belonging in the uk. the initiative aligns with india-uk vision 2035, strengthening bilateral education and skills cooperation.uel highlighted its india-focused projects, such as sugarcrete, ornate india, and naandi foundation, which have advanced education, healthcare, and women's employment.the mou was launched alongside the fourth edition of the india-uk achievers honours at the house of lords, coinciding with diwali and bandi chhor diwas celebrations. the awards honour indian changemakers leveraging uk education to advance business, science, culture, and public service.“international students bring £42 billion annually to the uk,” said lord jo johnson, former universities minister. sonia kumar, indian-origin labour mp, called the awards a symbol of enduring india-uk ties and the role of education in diplomacy and innovation.
