JNU Vice-Chancellor Appeals to Students on Hunger Strike
new delhi: jawaharlal nehru university (jnu) vice-chancellor santishree d pandit met with students on hunger strike today, urging them to end their protest, which has now entered its 10th day. the students are demanding increased scholarships, a caste census, the lifting of the campus protest ban, and the withdrawal of proctorial inquiries against those who participated in protests.ina video from the meeting, pandit is seen appealing to the students, saying, “i am doing whatever i can for all of you. you are like my children. it pains me to see this. i come from a backward class myself and understand the struggles you face.”pandit also addressed concerns about the proctorial inquiries, stating, “i cannot go against the court's decisions. i have revoked penalties for several students, but those who have taken legal action are beyond my control as the matter is subjudice.”dean of students manuradha chaudhary and chief medical officer fouzia firdous ozair were also present at the protest site. several students have been forced to end their hunger strike due to deteriorating health. on monday, two students were referred to aiims by jnu's health centre, though they declined treatment to continue their protest.
