President Murmu lauds AIIMS Bhubaneswar for healthcare excellence at convocation

bhubaneswar: president droupadi murmu on monday lauded the remarkable growth and contribution of aiims bhubaneswar in the field of healthcare, medical research, and public service as she graced the institute's fifth convocation ceremony.addressing the gathering, the president said aiims bhubaneswar has made significant strides in the past 12 years, winning the trust of people not just in odisha but also in neighbouring states like west bengal, chhattisgarh, and jharkhand.she noted that the institute has earned recognition from the world health organisation, receiving the asia safe surgical implant consortium qip award for its high standards in surgical instrument and implant reprocessing. it has also bagged the national kayakalp award for excellence in sanitation and hospital services for five consecutive years.highlighting the pivotal role of aiims across the country, murmu said the institutes are providing quality healthcare at affordable costs, thanks to cutting-edge medical practices and experienced professionals. she expressed confidence that india is poised to become a global healthcare hub.underscoring the progress in medical research, the president said advances in treatment and disease control have reduced the incidence of epidemics and serious illnesses such as smallpox, leprosy, polio, and tuberculosis. she acknowledged the efforts of healthcare workers, researchers, and government initiatives in achieving these milestones.drawing attention to rising mental health concerns, murmu said depression is emerging as a serious societal issue and stressed the need for awareness alongside medication. practices like yoga and pranayama, she said, could help promote mental well-being.the president also flagged the growing problem of obesity and urged healthcare professionals to promote healthy lifestyles, including dietary discipline and regular exercise.she further advised doctors to address region-specific health issues such as japanese encephalitis and sickle cell anaemia, particularly prevalent in tribal populations, and to step up research efforts for effective solutions.
